South Carolina Remains First-in-the-South (Rep. Joe Wilson)

Today, the South Carolina Republican Party announced that they will move the state’s primary to January 19th.  Our primary remains first-in-the-south and preserves the traditional role South Carolinians have played in nominating our next presidential candidate.

I am pleased that officials from South Carolina and New Hampshire worked together on this important issue.  Both states have a strong and proud history of forecasting potential nominees for each Party.

As the pace and excitement surrounding the 2008 election grows, the citizens of South Carolina are ready to play our part in this important and historical moment.  The opportunity to nominate and elect our leaders is a cherished right that none of us should take for granted.  This move reflects an enthusiasm and dedication to that right and a passion for the fundamentals of our representative democracy.
