U.S. Taxpayers Should Not Fund Social Security for Illegal Workers (Rep. Phil Gingrey)

Last week, the House passed my amendment to fix a major loophole in the Social Security totalization agreement between the U.S. and Mexico. This totalization agreement will put our already fragile Social Security program in even greater jeopardy by allowing tens of thousands of Mexican workers — including illegal immigrants — to draw the same benefits as U.S. taxpayers. This type of policy rewards illegal immigration at the very time we should be focused on securing our borders. U.S. taxpayers should not fund Social Security benefits for illegal workers. I am proud of the House for recognizing this raw deal for America’s workers, and for overwhelmingly passing my amendment.
