I have called for a change in strategy for Iraq for many months, and my hope is that the Senate will adopt either the Iraq Study Group recommendations, which offer a bipartisan path forward in Iraq, or the amendment that Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) and I have proposed, which would immediately change the nature of our mission in Iraq, focusing it away from combat and toward training and equipping of Iraqi forces, force protection for American assets, border security, and counterterrorism operations.
