This weekend, 12 members of Congress will participate in the 5th Annual Tri-Caucus Health Summit in San Diego. The host of this year’s event is the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County.
At the Tri-Caucus Summit, members of the Congressional Hispanic, Black, and Asian Pacific American Caucuses will gather with leading health care experts and on-the-ground advocates to discuss racial and ethnic health disparities and to build consensus on possible federal approaches to address them. Summit panel discussions will cover topics such as SCHIP, homelessness, tobacco cessation, veterans’ health, and HIV/AIDS.
As Chairs of the Health sections of our respective Caucuses, we are dedicated to eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities. Last week, we introduced H.R. 3014, the Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2007. This bi-partisan legislation addresses the underlying causes of disparities in health status and healthcare in racial and ethnic populations. The bill has 70 original co-sponsors, including Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.). We look forward to advancing this important legislation.
