McCain & Romney’s Web Attacks
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) each released a web ad attacking the other Friday. Romney questioned McCain’s conservatism; McCain, Romney’s leadership abilities.
McCain’s ad responds to Romney’s criticism of McCain’s leadership by, in turn, attacking Romney’s leadership. The ad uses footage of Romney saying that, as president, he would refer to his lawyers on questions of torture and that, for foreign policy experience, a president can turn to the State Department.
Romney’s ad uses a McCain campaign ad from 2000, in which McCain says then-primary opponent George W. Bush “twists the truth like Clinton.” It also denounces McCain for his opposition of Bush’s tax cuts and his central role in a compromise immigration bill earlier this year, claiming McCain is not as conservative as Romney.
