Be Cautious with Housing Market Fix (Rep. Chris Cannon)
We know from the data on the housing market that some have gotten in over their heads and everyone hopes there is a pathway out. Hopefully we can elicit information on what the options will be and how not to distort the market with excessive government intervention. If our goal is to help consumers we need to be cautious that we don’t hurt consumers with an over broad government escape valve that will pass costs down the line. Plenty took risks that didn’t pan out and government shouldn’t be looking to bail them out. But if there is a narrowly focused solution that can stabilize a wobbly housing market I am open to hearing it.
