The Administration Has Turned a Deaf Ear (Rep. Bob Filner)
Despite assurances from the Department of Transportation, I am not convinced that appropriate checks are in place to ensure the safety of Mexican trucks that are coming across the border. Mexico simply does not have appropriate background checks for drivers, licensing requirements, insurance coverage or safety inspections for trucks. The House and Senate have each passed bills to stop this program, but the Administration has turned a deaf ear to our safety concerns. I remain hopeful that the courts will step in on the side of safety and the American worker.
