Farm Bill Increase Opportunites for Underserved Communities (Rep. Joe Baca)
I am very proud of the Farm Bill passed by the House of Representatives this summer. This bill makes historic investments in nutrition and increases opportunities for traditionally underserved communities such as African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans and Asian-Pacific Islanders.
Currently, over 38 million Americans do not have enough to eat. As a long-time advocate for nutrition programs in Congress, it is imperative to me that the 2007 Farm Bill takes a strong stance in ending hunger. By increasing access to federal feeding programs for children, seniors, disabled adults, and military families, the House passed Farm Bill provides much needed nutrition assistance to over 13 million American families.
I urge my colleagues in the Senate to continue the beneficial work done by the House and pass a Farm Bill that makes nutrition a top priority.
