Iraq Resolution Is A Stepping Stone

Almost every second Democrat speaker mentions phased withdrawal as the other part of their agenda. And that’s clearly part of their agenda. They are clearly looking forward to a supplemental where they cut and remove funds. This is a replay, in many ways, of the post Vietnam period when South Vietnam was standing independent. The United States cut off funding and Gerald Ford watched it collapse for lack of re-supply of equipment. Not troops, just equipment.

I have no doubt that [the resolution] is a stepping stone into the Congress trying to manage the decisions of the war as they made a decision, even after our troops were no longer in harms way in Vietnam, to no longer support the financial military support of Vietnam. And as a result three million South Vietnamese paid with their lives.
