Senate Democrats Will Hold Bush Administration Accountable
This week, a bipartisan majority of United States Senators were prepared to debate the most important issue of our time: the war in Iraq. However, we were unable to do so. As I said on the Senate floor on Monday, the Senate owes it to our troops and the American people to have a real debate about a new way forward in Iraq. The President’s escalation plan is not the best strategy to complete the mission, nor is it in our country’s best interest. The sooner we can change the military strategy, the sooner we can restore our security. Despite Republicans obstruction this week, Senate Democrats are committed to holding the Bush Administration accountable for failed policies in Iraq through open debate and oversight.
