An Investment in the Nation’s Youth

In the military we invest in each service member’s education and training. As a result, we have the finest armed forces in the world. We must do the same for our nation’s youth, so that everyone is given the opportunity to realize his or her full potential. When I ran for office, I promised to make college affordability and reducing the interest rates on student loans one of my top priorities. Making secondary education more affordable and accessible is vital to both our education and economic security. Having a highly-skilled and well-educated workforce – particularly at a time when the cost of attending higher education is skyrocketing- is key to us remaining strong in such a competitive global economy. That is why today I am pleased to have cosponsored and voted for bipartisan legislation to make college more affordable and accessible to the working families of my district by cutting the interest rate in half on certain subsidized student loans over the next five years.
