Senate will vote on Obama budget

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said Tuesday senators will vote on the budget proposed by President Obama.

The president’s budget will be offered as a substitute amendment, with senators expected to vote on the measure later Tuesday afternoon.

{mosads}”Later on this afternoon, we’re going to give all members of the United States Senate a chance to vote on the president’s proposed budget,” Cornyn said from the Senate floor. “I will vote no — that’s probably no surprise to anyone. But I think everyone in this chamber deserves the opportunity to express themselves by voting on the president’s proposed budget.”

Republicans have slammed Obama’s budget, which the White House rolled out last month, for not balancing.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) suggested Tuesday the administration has a spending problem.

“[You’ve seen a] record levels of overspending, trillion-dollar deficits and historic levels of debt,” he said. “Hardworking families made tough choices while the Obama administration and its allies aimed to keep right on overspending.”
