House delays holiday to continue work on spending plan

The House is expected to hold votes past midnight and return to session on Friday to finish the Republican spending bill, an aide to Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told The Hill.

The schedule change means the House will delay its Presidents Day recess and blow past a self-imposed Thursday deadline for completing the $1 trillion continuing resolution. Dozens of amendment votes are expected in the next several hours, and the Appropriations Committee is finalizing a measure that will define which amendments are to be voted on, the aide said.

The aide did not say how long the House expects to be in session on Friday, noting it was too soon to tell.
