Republican Study Committee head Jordan to vote against spending bill

Jordan noted that the RSC had its sights set on a $100 billion cut from President Obama’s proposed FY 2011 budget. The agreement as negotiated goes a little more than halfway toward that goal, when counting the cuts Congress has already made this year in short-term spending bills.

Jordan blamed Democrats for preventing the RSC from reaching its goal.

“I thank the Republican leadership for their efforts to cut spending and rein in Washington,” he said. “By contrast, the tax-and-spend Democrats failed to pass their own budget last year, failed to take action on our spending plan this year, and never came up with a plan of their own.”

Twenty-eight Republicans, including Jordan, voted against the one-week stopgap bill on Saturday that paved the way for the full-year spending bill this week.
