Congress’s ‘fittest member’ bares abs

Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.), the youngest member of Congress, is also the “fittest member of Congress,” according to Men’s Health magazine.

Schock shows off his abs on the cover of the magazine’s June issue as part of a fitness contest he is helping to promote. 

{mosads}According to a statement released by the magazine, Schock is participating in a “Fit For Life” contest to help encourage readers to “get serious about making healthy changes to their lifestyles.” 

“Political muscle!” the front cover of the magazine declares. “America’s fittest congressman Rep. Aaron Schock is willing give you the shirt off his back.” 

“I’m very excited to be working with Men’s Health and Women’s Health on this very important initiative,” said Schock. “Together, I hope we can tackle America’s obesity epidemic and make a difference in helping our citizens, especially our younger generation, to get in shape, eat better, and lead happier, healthier lives.”

In an interview inside the magazine, Shock discusses exercise and nutrition and endorses first lady Michelle Obama’s fitness program “Let’s Move!”

“I think Michelle Obama is on the right track with her Let’s Move campaign to bring down childhood obesity,” said Schock.

“She and I come from the same state, Illinois, which is number four in the nation for obese children. One out of five Illinois children are considered obese.”

This is not the first time the freshman congressman’s good looks have brought him notoriety.

In 2009 he was dubbed the “Hottest Freshman Congressman” by The Huffington Post. He was also named to The Hill’s “50 Most Beautiful” list in 2009.

During his 2008 campaign a minor controversy broke out when a photograph surfaced of Schock posing poolside and shirtless with a bikini-clad woman leaning over him. 

He has also been the subject of a photo spread in GQ.
