GOP Lawmaker: Hezbollah ‘setting up camp’ in Mexico
Hezbollah is a Shiite militant group based out of Southern Lebanon that receives funding from Iran and seeks the destruction of both Israel and the United States. The U.S. State Department classifies Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
“We know that people coming across this border into our country, or a significant percentage at least, are other than Mexican, so many are from the Middle East, many who are taught to try to appear as Hispanic and come across and try to avoid indicating in any way that they are coming here not for jobs but to set up to try to do us harm,” said Gohmert in an hourlong speech on the House floor.
Gohmert was making his case for why he believes President Obama ought to deploy the U.S. Coast Guard on two lakes in Texas that border Mexico
The House recessed at 12:13 p.m. subject to the call of the chair.
