Libya legislative proposals pouring out of Congress
Aside from the resolution defunding the Libya operation (a text of which was not available as of Thursday morning), members have offered other alternatives in the last few days.
On Tuesday, Reps. Joe Heck (R-Nev.), Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and Candice Miller (R-Mich.) introduced a bill to require the withdrawal of troops from Libya.
On Wednesday, Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and others introduced a bill restricting the use of funds for operations in Libya. House members may also have a chance to vote to defund Libya operations as part of the Defense Department appropriations bill, through an amendment offered by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio).
Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) on Tuesday offered a resolution authorizing the limited use of force in Libya. Hastings also offered a bill on Wednesday to amend the War Powers Resolution to require the president to develop a post-deployment strategy when U.S. troops are mobilized.
