House rejects $820 million in cuts to Department of Energy
Members did accept three amendments in Thursday afternoon votes:
• Tom Reed (R-N.Y.), to increase Non-Defense Environmental Cleanup by reducing the Departmental Administration by $21 million and the Office of the Administrator by $20 million. Accepted, 261-162.
• Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), to transfer $79.6 million from the Departmental Administration to the Department of Energy’s Office of Science for the Advanced Research Projects Agency. Accepted, 214-213.
• John Shimkus (R-Ill.), to transfer $10 million from the Department of Energy’s Departmental Administration to Yucca Mountain license application. Accepted, 297-130.
The House rejected three other Democratic proposals:
• Jim Matheson (D-Utah), to transfer $10 million from the National Nuclear Security Administration Weapons Program to Non-Defense Environmental Cleanup. Failed, 168-257.
• Rush Holt (D-N.J.), to transfer $42.6 million from the National Nuclear Security Administration Weapons Program to the Department of Energy’s science activities. Failed, 164-261.
• Ed Royce (R-Calif.), to cut $10 million from the Department of Energy’s Office of Science. Failed, 136-291.
