Cantor warns of possible weekend work

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) warned members of the House late Wednesday that weekend work may be needed to finish up a continuing spending resolution. The House rejected a GOP continuing resolution earlier Wednesday by a 195-230 vote.

“Members are advised that a weekend session is now possible,” Cantor said in a note outlining Thursday’s expected schedule.

The House is expected to be in a position to consider a new continuing resolution under expedited procedures on Thursday, assuming Republican leaders can decide how to proceed. But Wednesday’s failure to approve the resolution in the House immediately raised the prospect of work on the weekend or even work next week, even though both chambers planned to be off that week.

Aside from more possible work on a spending resolution, the House plans to start work on H.R. 2401, the Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation (TRAIN) Act, which would require an assessment of EPA regulations on the economy. The rule for that bill makes a dozen amendments in order, most of which are from Democrats.
