Senate extends aid to elderly and disabled refugees
Following passage Schumer praised the program as one that assists many who endangered themselves in order to help the U.S. military on the battlefield in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Many are people who have aided American troops abroad in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Schumer. “[I]t’s their only lifeline to stay afloat.”
Schumer also pointed out that the program is “paid-for” by a $30 fee for entering the U.S. green card lottery program.
The Senate adjourned at around 7:24 p.m. on Monday night and is set to return at on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
