Democrats offer bill granting tax credit for infertility treatments
“The World Health Organization formally recognizes infertility as a disease, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have stated that infertility is an emerging public health priority,” according to the bill, sponsored by Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.). “According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 3,000,000 have infertility.”
Under the bill, people spending money on infertility treatments would get a tax credit of 50 percent of qualified expenses. These expenses, however, could not exceed $26,720 in total, which means the maximum tax credit per person could not exceed a little more than $13,000.
Other sponsors of the bill are Reps. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), Bill Keating (D-Mass.), and Richard Neal (D-Mass.).
