Tuesday: Still waiting for a deal

The House meets at 10 a.m. for speeches, then at noon to consider the rule for H.R. 10, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act. One hour of debate and a vote on the rule are expected today.

Other than that, the House is expected to consider 10 presumably non-controversial suspension bills. They are:

H.R. 1254, the Synthetic Drug Control Act;

H.R. 2405, the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Reauthorization Act;

H.R. 2297, to promote the development of Washington, D.C.’s Southwest waterfront;

H.R. 313, the Drug Trafficking Safe Harbor Elimination Act;

H.R. 2471, relating to consent for videotaping (the meaning of this bill eludes us; we can’t wait to hear this one explained);

H.R. 1021, the Temporary Bankruptcy Judgeships Extension Act;

S.J.Res. 22, relating to compacts between Missouri and Illinois;

S. 1639, relating to the American Legion, and;

S. 1541, revising eligibility requirements for the Blue Star Mothers of America.

Votes are also possible on seven other non-controversial suspension bills debated on Monday.

The Senate meets at 10 a.m. for speeches, then will consider the nomination of Caitlin Halligan to be a U.S. circuit judge for the District of Columbia. A vote on Halligan is expected at noon, after which the Senate will break until 2:15 for weekly caucus lunches.

As of Tuesday morning, no other Senate activities were announced.
