The ‘single most hated’ day of the year?

Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas) on Tuesday called April 15, the deadline to file tax returns, “the single most hated day of the year for American families.”

Brady said the complex tax code results in long and tedious hours to complete returns that could be spent on other activities.

“Most American taxpayers don’t want to spend hours upon hours organizing forms and receipts just to pay their taxes. They’d rather spend that time playing ball with their kids or starting a small business,” Brady said.

Brady, who is angling to become the next chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee despite competition from House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), said the burden of filing returns demonstrates the need for tax reform.

“When over 90 percent of returns are done by professionals or tax software, that should be a wake-up call that our tax code is far too complex,” Brady said.
