Friday: Finishing the payroll tax extension

The House meets at 9 a.m. to take up both the rule and the bill itself, and is expected to approve it by noon.

The Senate meets at 10 a.m., and is expected to take up the conference report soon after House passage.

Those votes will finish up a clunky week in which both the House and Senate had hoped to make much more progress on their own versions of a federal highway authorization bill. House GOP leaders delayed consideration of their bill until after the Presidents Day break next week, and while the Senate might hold a cloture vote on the highway bill, it will also need more time to finish the bill later this month and likely into March.
