Female Democratic senators blast all-male, GOP-led birth-control panel
“When I looked at this panel, obviously I was stunned,” said Boxer, brandishing an oversized photo of the Thursday hearing. “They are so hostile to women’s health that they didn’t even think to have a person on there who is a female.”
“[T]here is an assault on women,” she concluded. “Stand with us.”
{mosads}Several Democratic women walked out of the hearing, hosted by Issa’s House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, after their request for testimony from a young woman from Georgetown University was denied.
The panel was made up entirely of male religious figures.
Other women and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) joined Boxer on the floor on Friday to blast Republicans for their “war on women.”
“The Democratic women of the Senate are here to say enough,” said Sen. Patty Murray (Wash.), the Democratic conference secretary.
“I am disappointed and I know it’s a disappointment that is shared by millions of women across this country,” said Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.). “Women deserve a voice in this because after all in the end this is about our health.”
