GOP freshman proposes discretionary-spending freeze
“Do we want to be a nation where we focus on government’s core responsibilities, and maintain fiscally sound policies? Or do we want to be a nation buried under a mountain of debt that leverages our children’s and grandchildren’s futures? As a fiscal conservative, I know where I stand on this issue.”
{mosads}The Freeze Government Spending Act, H.R. 4060, would set a discretionary spending cap of $949 billion and maintain that cap until the end of fiscal 2021. According to Fleischmann, this would stop $856 billion in planned spending and more than $1 trillion when interest savings is counted.
The bill would amend last year’s Budget Control Act to set the new discretionary cap but would not affect so-called mandatory spending items.
