House passes bill to modernize Federal Register

The House on Monday passed a bill requiring the Federal Register to be only published online instead of printed.

Passed 386-0, the measure would further require that documents in the Federal Register are available for sale or distribution to the public. 

{mosads}The Federal Register is the official publication for regulations, proposed rules and notices of federal agencies. 

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) said the measure would help modernize the Federal Register.

“Today there are only 124 paid subscribers to the print version of the federal register,” Gosar said. “Despite this fact, the government is legally required to produce a print version of the register.”

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, said the reform would save federal money.

“This is a good government bill that will reduce waste and save taxpayers’ money,” Cummings said.
