Alabama Democrat blasts ‘war on whites’
Rep. Terri Sewell (D) condemned her Alabama colleague Rep. Mo Brooks’s (R) suggestion that Democrats are waging a “war on whites.”
Sewell, the only Democrat and only nonwhite member of the Alabama congressional delegation, said she was “incredibly disappointed” by Brooks’s statements.
{mosads}”This is a part of the war on whites that’s being launched by the Democratic Party. And the way in which they’re launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else,” Brooks said earlier this week. “It’s a part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008, continued in 2012, where he divides us all on race, on sex, greed, envy, class warfare, all those kinds of things. Well, that’s not true.”
Brooks later doubled down on his claims, saying people could “lawfully discriminate” against white people as with no other group.
“I am incredibly disappointed in the comments made by my colleague Congressman Mo Brooks. To invoke racial motives in the debate for comprehensive immigration reform is neither productive nor warranted,” Sewell said in a statement.
“His insensitive remarks are inflammatory and do not represent the views of the state of Alabama,” Sewell said.
