Dingell hospitalized

Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), the longest-serving member of Congress in history, has been admitted to a Detroit hospital to treat abdominal pain.

{mosads}Dingell, 88, is expected to be released from Henry Ford Hospital within the next few days, according to his office. He plans to be back in Washington, D.C., next week for votes.

“Dingell is doing well, is receiving an IV treatment of antibiotics, and remains in good spirits,” his office said in a statement.

The dean of the House, who has served since 1955, will retire at the end of the current session of Congress. His wife, Debbie Dingell, is campaigning to replace him.

In March, Dingell was admitted to Henry Ford for a “minimally invasive procedure” to treat an abnormal heart rhythm.

On Monday afternoon, Dingell thanked well-wishers on Twitter and said he was catching up with cable news.
