House passes resolution condemning ISIS for journalist killings
Before departing for recess Thursday evening, the House passed a resolution expressing condolences for the two American journalists beheaded by extremist group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The resolution, which was passed by unanimous consent, further condemns ISIS for its acts of terrorism.
{mosads}ISIS released two videos in recent weeks showing the beheading of two American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff. A British aid worker was also beheaded by the group on video.
Also Thursday, the Senate cleared a stopgap funding bill to avoid a government shutdown on Oct. 1. that includes a provision authorizing the arming of Syrian rebels to fight ISIS. The House adopted the proposal as an amendment on Wednesday.
