Rep. Robert Hurt (R-Va.) has introduced legislation that would allow individuals to remove their profiles from the federal health insurance exchange website.
Hurt argued it would protect the privacy of people who create a profile, but ultimately choose not to sign up for health insurance, noting that the HealthCare.gov website was hacked in July. Officials have said that no personal information was compromised in the hack.
{mosads}”Clearly, major cybersecurity risks exist within the online federal marketplace, and these grave security concerns make it even more imperative that individuals have the ability to remove their personal information permanently from HealthCare.gov, which this bill enables,” Hurt said.
Rep. John Barrow (Ga.), one of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents this election cycle, has signed on as a co-sponsor of the measure.
