Bill would ban Social Security for immigrants affected by executive action

Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas) has introduced legislation to prevent undocumented immigrants eligible to stay in the U.S. under President Obama’s executive action from getting Social Security numbers.

Johnson argued that undocumented immigrants shouldn’t be able to receive federal benefits even if they have work permits issued through the executive action.

{mosads}”What the president is doing is illegal, and to make matters worse, these same illegal immigrants may now also be eligible for government benefits – benefits paid for by hardworking American taxpayers. That’s just wrong!” Johnson said in a statement.

Johnson’s bill would also prevent people from earning Social Security benefits during the time when they didn’t hold work permits.
