GOP rep. slams attempts to unseat Boehner

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) on Monday questioned the merits of trying to derail John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) bid for a third term as Speaker.

Kinzinger, who has served in Congress since 2011, argued dividing the GOP conference as the party takes control of both chambers of Congress would be unnecessarily divisive.

{mosads}”#FireBoehner- really? The federal deficit is the smallest since 2008! And now GOP has Senate majority too #JustGettingStarted,” Kinzinger wrote on Twitter.

At least nine conservative House Republicans have announced they won’t support Boehner during the Speaker election on Tuesday when the new Congress convenes. Firebrand Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) will challenge Boehner, though both candidacies are considered long shots.
