Dem tells Republicans to ‘just stop it’

Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas) had a few choice words for House Republicans on Tuesday as the House prepared to debate a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security as a means of fighting back against President Obama’s immigration executive actions.

“I rise today to call on my Republican colleagues to just stop it. Stop endangering the American public, stop endangering our national security and get to work for the American people,” Veasey said on the House floor.

{mosads}Veasey called for a “clean” spending bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that doesn’t include any immigration-related riders. Funding for the DHS runs out on Feb. 27.

“House Republicans continue to talk about deporting kids and pushing their anti-immigrant agenda against ‘Dreamers’ and compromising our national security,” Veasey said.

“It’s time to pass a clean DHS funding bill and bring comprehensive immigration reform to a vote.”

The House will consider five amendments before final passage of the spending measure on Wednesday. One of those amendments would defund President Obama’s November executive action to shield up to 5 million illegal immigrants from deportation, while another would halt a separate 2012 order to delay deportations of immigrants who came to the U.S. as children.

Members will begin two hours of general debate on the bill Tuesday evening.
