House holds moment of silence for N.Y. train accident victims

House members recognized a moment of silence Wednesday afternoon for the victims of a New York train accident this week.

Six people died and eight more were injured after a Metro-North commuter train struck a car at a train crossing Tuesday night in Valhalla, N.Y., which is about 30 miles from Manhattan’s Grand Central station.

{mosads}Members of the New York delegation gathered in the well of the House to lead the moment of silence.

“I stand on the House floor today with my colleagues to call for a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives in this tragic accident, offer sincere condolences to the families of the victims, pray for the full recovery of those injured, and thank our first responders for quickly arriving at the scene to help others,” said Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.).
