Bill would ban abortions across state lines
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) has introduced legislation making it illegal to bring a minor to another state to get an abortion.
Ros-Lehtinen said the measure would prevent people from avoiding parental consent laws or parental notification laws that the minor would otherwise have to follow.
{mosads}”At a time where minors need to submit permission slips to go on a school trip, parents should not be left in the dark when their children have an abortion. Parental consent laws are in effect for a sound reason and crossing state lines should not negate the intent behind the law,” Ros-Lehtinen said.
Ros-Lehtinen has previously introduced the bill in prior sessions of Congress. The House passed versions of the legislation in 2005 and 2006.
