Bill would ensure malpractice coverage for traveling sports doctors
Two bipartisan House lawmakers have introduced a measure that would make sure sports team trainers and medical professionals are covered by malpractice insurance while traveling out of state.
Reps. Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and Cedric Richmond (D-La.), the bill’s sponsors, said it would prevent trainers and doctors from losing insurance that covers their work while out of state on a regular basis. Without the insurance, they become personally liable for any mishaps.

“Going on the road is a part of the job at every level in sports so it is only right that their insurance coverage reflect that reality,” Richmond added.
