Dem: GOP is ‘playing’ game of ‘political football’

Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.) said Friday that Republicans are playing a game of “political football” by passing a short-term stopgap bill for the Department of Homeland Security.

Brown and other Democrats argue that House Republicans should pass a long-term DHS funding bill without provisions revoking President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. But the House GOP is moving forward with a three-week temporary measure to avoid a shutdown at midnight Friday.

{mosads}”You all need to stop playing games with the safety of the American people,” Brown said in a fiery floor speech. “You are the one that got on this floor and said it’s a political football. If it is a political football, you are the one that’s playing.”

Brown’s remarks led Rep. Rob Woodall (R-Ga.) to comment on how “tempers” often flare during floor debates.

“I’ve been in this institution for four years. And I’ve grown to love this institution. I’ve grown to love the people who serve in this institution. And it is disappointing to me to see some of the tempers that boil over here and have that only display for the American people,” the easygoing Woodall said.

“But the truth is those tempers boil over because folks here care. They don’t care a little, they care a lot,” Woodall said.
