Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas) suggested that President Obama would have allowed Japan to win World War II based on how the administration negotiated the Iran deal.
Weber took to the House floor Wednesday a day after international negotiators, including the U.S., announced a historic deal to curtail Iran’s nuclear arsenal in exchange for lifting economic sanctions.
The Texas Republican said the deal amounted to “capitulation” to the Iranian regime.
{mosads}“President Obama announced, quote, that ‘America negotiated from a position of strength and principle.’ Really? That was our beginning position? Well, when did they cease to push that position? All I see is capitulation to a regime which has repeatedly violated the terms of the negotiations all the while sitting at the very negotiation table,” Weber said.
He then claimed that World War II would have ended differently had President Obama boarded the USS Missouri in 1945 for Japan to sign the official agreement to surrender.
“All I can say is it’s a good thing President Obama wasn’t on the decks of the USS Missouri to end World War II because had he been, we’d all be speaking Japanese,” Weber concluded.
Congress will not receive the official text and classified annexes of the Iran deal for another several days. Republican lawmakers and presidential candidates nonetheless immediately denounced the agreement within hours after its announcement. Once Congress formally receives the documents, lawmakers will have 60 days to review and vote on approving or disapproving the deal.
