House passes bill to study first responder aid
The House passed legislation on Thursday to require a report to Congress on state and local programs that aid first responders.
Passed 396-12, the measure directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to report to Congress within a year on programs to prepare and assist first responders during terrorist attacks.

“Our country continues to be resilient because of the men and women who keep us safe every day by putting their lives on the line,” said Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas). “We can thank them by ensuring they have sufficient resources to do their jobs.”
The House is expected to consider an omnibus spending package next week that includes a measure to renew health benefits for 9/11 first responders.
