California Dems demand Holder, Sebelius probe mental patient ‘dumping’

The letter said this is known as “Greyhound therapy,” and suggested that placing patients on buses could be a form of kidnapping. It also suggested that busing mental patients out of state could violate a federal law that requires mental patients to be stabilized before release.

{mosads}”We respectfully request that the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services investigate to see if any federal laws have been violated by the State of Nevada,” the members wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

The letter also asked for an investigation into whether the two clinics reportedly engaging in “Greyhound therapy” have broken any laws. They are Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services and Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital.

“Additionally, we request that you examine if the practice of ‘Greyhound Therapy’ is occurring in any other states,” the letter adds. “Federal investigation is warranted here, particularly in light of admissions from Nevada officials that their own investigation found ‘no pattern of misconduct.’ “

The letter asked that Holder and Sebelius report back to them after 30 days on the status of the investigation.
