Reid calls on the House to pass immigration reform

The Senate is expected to pass immigration reform by the end of the week. Three procedural votes are scheduled for Wednesday to advance the effort.

{mosads}Reid “applauded” the Gang of Eight for working together to draft the bipartisan legislation, which would create a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the country, toughen border security, create a guest worker program and boost high-skilled immigration.

“This is really America at its best. Each one of those eight senators don’t know, just as I don’t know, whether this work will help them or hurt them in their political careers,” Reid said. “But we have a broken immigration system and they have come up with a solution to fix it.”

Democrats in the Senate have warned the House that if their immigration reform bill doesn’t include a pathway to citizenship that it will fail and be vetoed by the White House.
