Tuesday: Energy and water spending in the House

The legislation allows $30.4 billion in spending on the Department of Energy, Army Corps of Engineers, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and various independent agencies. All of these areas would be cut under the bill compared to 2013 levels, and reflect what Republicans say are necessary decisions in light of the federal government’s fiscal crisis.

{mosads}The bill prioritizes NNSA funding and maintaining U.S. waterways, but Democrats say it makes too many cuts to other programs, including energy and infrastructure projects.

The Senate meets at 10 a.m., and at noon, senators will vote on the nomination of Jennifer Dorsey to be a U.S. district judge for Nevada.

Senators will recess for the usual Tuesday lunches, and have no votes planned until Wednesday. Then, senators will vote to end debate on a motion to proceed to S. 1238, which would keep the interest rate on federally backed student loans at 3.4 percent for another year.
