Rep. Broun says Snowden’s leak was a ‘proper thing to do’
“What he’s done since then is another matter, but his allowing the American public to know what the NSA was doing, which is totally unconstitutional, against our Fourth Amendment rights, was a proper thing to do.”
{mosads}Broun’s comments are very different from those of Republican leaders, who have said Snowden is a traitor who needs to be returned to the United States to stand trial for revealing classified information.
Broun, who is running to replace Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) in the Senate next year, said his views on Snowden are just one reason why voters should choose him. He promised to continue fighting to defund ObamaCare, but noted that GOP leaders are opposed to this idea as well.
“This is going to be our last best chance,” he said. “Now, the problem I see in Washington is our leadership doesn’t want to do that.”
Broun also said he wants to repeal federal programs like No Child Left Behind and Common Core that dictate education policy to the states.
“I say, let’s close down the Department of Education,” he said. “Let’s pay our teachers more. Let’s get the government shackles of No Child Left Behind and now Common Core off of our teachers.”
