House to resume work after shots fired outside Capitol

The Capitol complex went into lockdown mode at about 2:20 p.m., and that lockdown was lifted shortly after 3 p.m. The shooting occurred outside, after a woman in a car reportedly tried to ram through a barricade near the White House and then fled to the Capitol.

{mosads}That woman was reportedly shot dead on the scene, and at least one law enforcement officer was wounded.

The House quickly went into recess at 2:22 p.m., without explanation, and several members of the House were trapped inside as police swarmed to secure the area.

When the House recessed, it was working on a bill to fund the Department of Veterans Affairs. When it returned, it held a brief moment of silence, a show of respect to the Capitol Police who were injured in the event.
