Dems dare Boehner to call up the Senate’s spending bill
“There’s one clear way to find out … let us vote on the floor of the House,” Rep. Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) said in reply Monday.
{mosads}On the House floor, the ranking member of the House Ways & Means Committee said all Democrats would vote for it, and that as many as 22 Republicans would support it as well.
“That’s a majority,” Levin said. “There are enough votes to end the shutdown. And Mr. Speaker, if you don’t believe it, let us vote.”
Levin was followed by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), who also called for a vote on the Senate bill. Jackson Lee said her constituents are telling her not to give in to Republican demands to undermine ObamaCare, despite the ongoing shutdown.
“I was overwhelmed by those who came up to me and indicated … that negotiation and interaction is important, but don’t break on the issue of the Affordable Care Act and getting this government open,” she said.
