Hoyer will vote against the one-week spending bill

Hoyer argued that it is a waste of time for the House to consider the bill, H.R. 1363, because the White House has issued a veto threat, and it is not expected to be taken up in the Senate. Hoyer went further by reiterating his charge that Republicans are holding the government “ransom” by effectively demanding $12 billion in cuts over one week as the price for keeping the government open.

“You do it to pretend you want to keep government in operation,” he said. “We ought to reject this specious political act which pretends that we want to keep the government open.”

In an earlier colloquy, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) rejected Hoyer’s request to pass a clean continuing resolution, without policy rides, in order to give both parties more time to negotiate.
