The Senate starts at 10 a.m., and at 10:30 a.m. it will hold a vote to end debate on a motion go proceed to S. 1845, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act.
{mosads}Senators were about to hold that vote Monday, but so many senators were missing due to delayed flights, they postponed it until today. Eight Republicans and eight Democrats were missing Monday, as were both Independent senators.
Sixty votes are needed to end debate. If the votes are there, it will let the Senate continue working on the bill during the week. But only a few Republicans have said they’d support ending debate so far — if less than five GOP members support it, the Senate can’t end debate.
The Senate will break at 12:30 p.m. for the regular caucus lunches.
The House is also in today, but has no votes planned. Instead, members will convene at 2 p.m., and then recess. A quorum call to establish a quorum for the second session of the 113th Congress will happen at 6:30 p.m.
