Monday: Sexual assault in the military
The Senate returns late Monday to hold a procedural vote on a judicial nominee, and then pass a bill to boost protections for victims of sexual assault in the U.S. Armed Forces.
{mosads}Senators will pass S. 1917, the Victims Protection Act. The bill lets victims challenge their discharge from the military, and eliminates the ability to cite a soldier’s good record when defending that soldier against assault charges.
The legislation from Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) is a less controversial bill than one the Senate rejected last week.
The Senate starts its day at 4 p.m., in preparation for an all-nighter — Democrats will speak late into the night and all through Tuesday morning on climate change.
The House is out, and returns Tuesday.
