Wednesday: Welcome back, Congress
The House and Senate return Wednesday for the first day of the lame-duck session.
Both chambers have been in recess so that members could campaign since Sept. 18. The voting schedule for lawmakers’ first day back in Washington will be light.
{mosads}The Senate will convene at 2 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., the Senate will vote to invoke cloture on the nominations of Randolph D. Moss to be a U.S. district judge for the District of Columbia and Leigh Martin May to be a U.S. district judge for the northern district of Georgia.
The House will also convene at 2 p.m. It will consider a series of bills under suspension of the rules, including H.R. 4194, to eliminate certain government reports, and H.R. 1233, to overhaul presidential recordkeeping requirements. Votes will be at 6:30 p.m. after lawmakers have had an opportunity to attend the reception for incumbents and new members-elect.
In addition, Speaker Boehner will swear in three new members to fill vacancies: Reps.-elect Dave Brat (R-Va.), Alma Adams (D-N.C.) and Donald Norcross (D-N.J.).
